Yesterday while I was waiting for a bus home, I overheard a mum telling her boy "When we go home, must throw away all the Harry Potter disks" because she read in the papers that the witchcraft element of Harry Potter is highly influential ,in all its "essence". And I'm not exaggerating, she looked like uppity Dolores Umbridge. If I was that boy, I'd have gone home packed all my clothes in my bag and gone to grandma's (mine stayed a few blocks away when i was 5 so whenever I wanted to run away I'd think of going there).

It looked like she wasn't even thinking about it, you know just reading what one person has to say about it and going with it. I'm not saying this because of my crazy obssession with all things Potter (guilty nonetheless) but cult favourites doesn't mean "cult" favourites, when you mobilise millions of people to read these books it does not mean that there is a "magical element" that has helped to achieve this. Sorry but it just undermines the author's worth. Be it Twilight, which was a cheesy but still guilty of owning the last two instalments, or the likes of classics. I'm really trying to avoid saying anything to attack the narrow-minded thought because maybe some camps do believe that the Potter saga breeds such an unhealthy witchcraft following but to each his own. It's just very sad that that boy is going to have to let go part of his childhood that I'm still very reluctant to let go
